My piece »Impossible Sketches« was inspired by van Gogh’s painting »Starry Night«. This painting is incredibly ›musical‹ to me and the symbolism of its elements (12 stars, moon, cypress, village) inspired me to translate this symbolism into my music. In addition, the rich combination of vertical, horizontal, diagonal, and circular lines – created by thick brushstrokes and outlines – provided a wealth of ideas for my ›musical imagination‹. All of this contributed to creating a sense of movement in the piece and, quite clearly, to opening up a wholly new perspective – one that is fluid and seemingly from another world.
