»Impossible Sketches« was inspired by [Vincent] van Gogh’s painting »Starry Night«. The main idea of the piece can be viewed as a metaphor for any time the world suddenly appears unfamiliar, almost as if things were turned upside down – similar to looking out from inside the mirror to find a world both recognizable and yet turned inside out. Due to today’s global political and economic situation in the world, I feel that it’s very important for us, as living composers, to show our lives lack true freedom without any wars or censorship, through contemporary music. Perhaps we ourselves live ›turned upside down‹ in the world ›when things are not as they should‹ and the ›right world‹ is on the other side of the mirrors?
