Situation XV – »… this is the noise that keeps everything quiet…«
for ensemble and electronics (2024, GP)

This piece was created in close collaboration with the Meitar Ensemble and dedicated to those affected by war. Inspired by the words of a child near the Gaza border who perceived a strange kind of silence in the constant hum of air conditioners, the composition weaves together layers of noise, fragments of Iranian lullabies and laments, as well as echoes of early musical encounters. It is a personal reflection on loss, connection, and the quiet act of listening.
Anahita Abbasi is an Iranian composer of acoustic and electro-acoustic music. She studied at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz (KUG) and at the University of California, San Diego. Her works have been performed worldwide by leading soloists and ensembles, and have received multiple awards. In addition to her compositional work, Anahita Abbasi curates concerts, serves as a juror for composition competitions, and is a founding member of both the Schallfeld Ensemble and the Iranian Female Composers Association (IFCA). She currently lives in Germany and Paris.
