»Motion Scapes« presents the prototype of a cybernetic feedback system that translates environmental DNA (eDNA) into sound. Drawing on her long-standing experience as a composer, Kyoka redefines the act of musical creation. The focus shifts away from the construction of fixed musical structures toward the architecture of the system itself – an autonomous apparatus designed for sound generation. The work’s sonic aesthetic lies in mapping the complex behaviors of nature directly onto sonic parameters, allowing biological phenomena to drift through the space as an emergent experience. Because the system operates with unpredictable biological data, it transcends personal intention, allowing the music to manifest as a living, breathing entity.

Kyoka is a Japanese-born sound artist based in Berlin and Zurich, working at the intersection of music, neuroscience and perception. As the first solo female artist on the Raster-Noton label, she has developed a distinctive approach to electronic composition that combines minimal structures with complex sonic processes. Her recent research explores the translation of biological and environmental data – such as DNA and physiological signals – into sound, creating cybernetic feedback systems between listening and the body. Through installations and performances, she investigates how sound shapes perception, attention and internal states.
